Cat corner

Cats require special care, and we take care of them with the utmost expertise and attention. We offer comprehensive diagnostics, treatment, and prevention to ensure their health and well-being.

Dear cat lovers, our clinic has received the Bronze Medal for our Cat Friendly approach.

Cat Friendly is a system that reduces stress and anxiety for feline patients during their visit to the veterinary clinic. These measures apply to both the staff and the equipment, as well as the layout of the office, waiting area, and hospitalization spaces.

What does this bring to you as a cat owner?

Gentle handling of your cat, a considerate approach that addresses the specific needs of cats, and minimizing stress throughout the entire clinic visit. As a result, we achieve higher efficiency during examinations and can identify your cat’s health issues more easily and quickly.

Cat and her health - advice from a breeder

Should I take my cat to the vet? Or should we wait a bit longer? Every pet owner and breeder has probably faced this question. It’s an easy question, but a tough answer. If you know your cat well, she will likely give you many signs herself. Cats are fairly conservative creatures. They have their daily routines and habits. If something is wrong, these habits will change. Does your cat wake you up earlier than usual and demand food… but not today? Does she normally ask for playtime at a certain hour and now she’s skipping it to sleep instead? Does she greet you when you come home from work… but didn’t today? These and many other behaviors may be signs that your cat is not feeling well.

Many signs can be found in her eating habits. Is your cat suddenly eating less? Or, on the other hand, is she demanding larger portions but still losing weight? Hydration is also crucial. Does it seem like your cat is drinking more? Try measuring how much she drinks over 24 hours. This is important information for the vet. Or is she barely drinking at all…? Even her bathroom habits can be an indicator. Is your cat frequently using the litter box but not doing her business? Has she always been tidy and suddenly started going outside the box? Does she have diarrhea…?

The condition of your cat’s fur can also provide clues about her health. When you pet her, does her fur feel dry and brittle? Run your hand against the grain of the fur from time to time. You might notice a lot of dandruff or bald patches, and sometimes even small cracks in the skin. All of this requires attention. While you’re grooming her, take a look inside her ears. You might find a lot of dark wax or an unpleasant smell coming from them. Check her mouth—are her gums red and does her breath smell? These are signs that your cat may need help. Also, inspect her claws. Are they overgrown? If your cat is having trouble walking or climbing, an ingrown claw can be very painful. Our cats are not immune to modern-day diseases. Cats can have heart problems, kidney issues, thyroid problems, epilepsy, asthma… And they are also vulnerable to specific feline diseases like FeLv, FIP, FIV.

Important: Every cat, whether it lives indoors or also ventures outside, whether young or old, should be vaccinated annually. This is beneficial for the cat’s health and also provides an opportunity for a thorough examination. Before vaccination, the vet should examine the cat’s eyes, ears, mouth, abdomen, listen to its breathing and heartbeat. Only a healthy cat can be vaccinated.

I hope that your cats experience as few health problems as possible. But if you’re unsure, at least consult by phone. The staff at the Fénix clinic is always happy to listen and offer advice. Timely treatment is generally shorter, less stressful for the cat, and saves you time and money.

We are active.

We don’t just want to treat, but also help and educate.

When we moved to our new clinic, we played with the idea of how to make the most of the beautiful and spacious premises. One thing led to another, and thanks to our long-term collaboration with cat shelters (Občanské sdružení Podbrdsko and Pražský spolek ochránců zvířat), we thought of deepening this connection by offering our veterinary clinic’s space for adoption exhibitions of abandoned cats, held several times a year. This year marks the fourth year of this wonderful collaboration, and as you can read below, over 100 cats have found a home in that time.

As part of our educational efforts, we hold seminars on cat breeding at our clinic, which are very popular. Here, you can learn all the basic and specific requirements for breeding cats.

In our cat corner, you’ll also find useful articles for better living with your feline friends.
